The United States’ first-ever National Park, Yellowstone is a must-see for any parks and nature enthusiast. Here’s what you won’t want to miss when you go there:
Grand Prismatic Spring
You’ve no doubt seen the arresting photos capturing this vividly multicolored hot spring. Of course, as is usually the case with such amazing natural wonders, even the best of pictures don’t do justice to seeing it in person.
You’ve probably heard that this geyser is named for its stellar record of performing amazingly consistently about every 90 minutes, shooting thousands of gallons of steaming hot water hundreds of feet high into the air. It’s definitely impressive to witness – and there is also a nearby walkway where you can see dozens of other geysers, bubbling pots, steaming pools, and other pretty cool geothermic activity.
Here you will see displays of natural hot water flowing over neat rock formations. It brings to mind those carved fountains designed for water flow, though nature does this much better.

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
Yellowstone has its own Grand Canyon, with a roaring river going through it. Plus, amazing hiking views nearby.
Artist Paint Pots/Fountain Paint Pots
These places are close to one another, and can both best be described as otherworldly – and in an awesomely surreal way. You might wonder if you’ve been transported to another planet. These spots are less famous than some of the others, but definitely make some time to see them.
While you’re in Fountain Paint Pots, be sure to also see Firehole Lake.
