Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Fremont, California

By Rachel Puryear

In the southeast part of the San Francisco Bay Area, there’s a gentle and beautiful hike by the water – that is, the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Fremont.

There are plenty of birds, lush landscapes, mushrooms, and great views by the bay to enjoy here. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend checking it out:

Aerial view over the San Francisco Bay.
Bird on a mossy log.
Ducks on the water.
Fence on grasslands with a farmhouse.
Lots of birds congregating in water near shore.

See here for more about visiting the refuge. Here’s also a quick link to their accessibility page. Note that there’s a nice, large parking lot for the park.
